A Story

"Once upon a time, there was a powerful princess, leader of an army of thousands of men..." She said, as she kept on with the careful writing of a letter. He was across the room, sitting on the floor with his back against the wall. His deep black hair fell upon his closed eyes and his broad shoulders were relaxed as he breathed to the sound of her voice. Her voice was everything, his entire world in that moment.
"Was she a warrior princess then?" He asked, without opening his eyes.
"No, she was a diferent kind of powerful" She replied, a slight smile coming upon her kind features "She had power in her spirit and her will was fire. With mere words she could make the world follow her, the kindness in her eyes would make the strongest of wills bow down to her in awe."
"Was she beautiful?" He asked, a dark smile on his lips "'Cause I could swear you're describing yourself."
Her laugh filled the air between them. "I'm not that vain. And why does it all have to be about beauty for you men?"
"Because we're men, as it stands." He reclosed his eyes and made himself comfortable against the wall. "I think she was."
"And I'm not telling you."
"Why not? I'm curious!"  She laughed again, the sound of her laughter rippling through the air and warming the void in his chest. Amazing how someone without a soul could feel so complete.
"Well, one day, the princesse's most trusted coucellors decided to overthrow her. They found her too kind. With such an army at her dispose she could conquer the entire world. If she didn't then she must be weak and unfit for ruling."
"Not everyone has to have a wish for power!" He objected. His eyebrows went down and his black eyes seemed to sparkle with indignity.
"I know, but not everyone thinks like we do, as it seems. Will you let me tell the story?" He smiled, his white teeth glimmering with malice
"But I know the story." He said, looking like a troublesome devil. She turned back in her chair and stopped writing, amused. Her golden amber eyes flashed at him, obviously pleased with the defieance.
"Do you now? Very well, my dark poet, what happens next?"
"They plan to kill her that night, in her sleep. But one of them, an old friend maybe? Yes, an old friend warns her and they run together into the woods" His voice grew more excited as he caught on to the story, the thrill of someone who was creating life from where there was only darkness, eyes shimmering with pleasure. "In the woods, they meet a dashing rogue, kinda like me. He falls victim of those kind eyes and fire will you mentioned before, deeply and irrevogably in love with her, kinda like me and you." He paused as she laughed with pure delight, then moved on. "He can't live with seeing his beloved driven away from her kingdom, her people. He offers to help. What happens next?"
She smiled again, now as thrilled as he was for they were creating something together. Her golden eyes sweeped the room, looking for inspiration maybe, and rested on his. Then the words came out effortlessly as if they were only waiting to be told.
"Together they ran to the city gates. Bravely he fought and slew all who stood against her. Turns out the friend you mentioned was quite good with a dagger too."
"I never said it was a she."
"But I did. Well, in the middle of the battle he falls, wounded. She falls into panic, but doesn't let it overthrow her. She raises her voice and with authority that belongs to only her she orders the battle to stop, and so it does."
"What happens to the council?"
"Punished."
"And the rogue?"
"Lives happily ever after with his princess, of course." She said, her eyes swaying over him.
"A bit like you and me." He said, getting up and holding her in his arms
"Yes, like you and me." she replied, as she stretched over to bring her lips to his.
